Aspen Healthcare was established in March 1998 following a management buyout of Paracelsus UK from Paracelsus Kliniken Deutschland GmbH (an independent healthcare provider founded in 1987). At the time of the buyout, the company consisted of two acute care community hospitals: Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon, SW London and Holly House Hospital (now known at The Holly Private Hospital) in Buckhurst Hill, Essex.
United Surgical Partners International (USPI), backed by Welsh Carson Anderson and Stowe (WCAS), acquired Aspen in April 2000.
The company continued to increase and expand upon its facilities and in 2010 it rolled out its first Clinical Partnership Model at Cancer Centre London, Wimbledon, SW London. Aspen’s on going strategy is to work with its Consultants in Partnership.
In early 2012, a restructuring of the USPI group resulted in Aspen Healthcare being wholly owned by WCAS. In June 2015 Aspen became a wholly owned subsidiary of Tenet Healthcare, a leading provider of diversified healthcare services in the United States.
On Tuesday 28 September 2021, it was announced that Aspen Healthcare Corporate Office will become part of Nuffield Health as part of a wider agreement that includes The Edinburgh Clinic, Parkside Private Hospital, Highgate Private Hospital, Cancer Centre London and The Holly Private Hospital.
